What this layout shows

Watch the line that carries Water from Aluminum Scrap back into the Alumina Solution step.

How it works

  1. Make Alumina Solution from Bauxite and Water.
  2. Make Aluminum Scrap from Alumina Solution and Coal; the step returns Water as a byproduct.
  3. Merge that Water back into the Alumina Solution step so less has to be pumped in.
  4. Smelt the Aluminum Scrap and take out Aluminum Ingot.

Calculated at build time

These are not fixed illustrative figures: they are solved again on game data 1.1.x every time the static pages are generated.

These figures come from solving this template at build time.

  • Aluminum Ingot: 120.00 items/min
  • Production power: 335.21 MW
  • Production and power buildings to build: 9
Raw resource required from outsideRateUnit
Copper Ore 180.00 items/min
Water 120.00 m³/min
Coal 60.00 items/min
Raw Quartz 60.00 items/min
SAM 40.00 items/min

What the loop reuses

The Water returned by the scrap step is reused upstream. The figure below is the amount that circulates, and therefore never has to be pumped in from outside.

Byproduct Water reused across the line: 60.00 m³/min

Where the circulating Water is produced

  • Aluminum Scrap: 60.00 m³/min

Notes for building it in game

  • On start-up, fill the pipes from the Water Extractors and only throttle the intake once the loop is running.
  • Set the valves and merge points so that the returning Water is always consumed first.
  • If the byproduct Water backs up, every step stops — an emergency outlet is worth building.
